Who doesn't get riled up when debating the war of the sexes! We are learning how to write opinion paragraphs. My students were given a statement and based on prior knowledge and feelings, they formed an opinion, supported the opinion with 3 statements and finished the paragraph with a closing. The classroom really heated up when we wrote about who's smarter - boy students or girl students. There were very strong opinions about this question. One female student wrote that girls are smarter because, "we can sit longer, stand longer and follow directions better." Another student even conducted internet research with her dad and stated that more girls attend college than boys making girls smarter. A boy proudly proclaimed that boys are better at math. That's when things got a little out of hand... anyway here is my opinion freebie and if you like the assignment, check out my Whose Opinion is it Anyway? 10 Writing Prompts on TpT.

Who's Smarter: Boy Students or Girl Students?

Roar!!!!!! I just finished grading the impressive animal fables that my students authored. I must say that they have tons of imagination and it was a blast helping them navigate through the writing process. To celebrate a job well done, I have uploaded the My Fable Creation Board graphic organizer that I designed for the project. If you like the organizer and plan on writing fables in your class, check out my Create-a-Story: Animal Fables product on http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Create-a-Story-Animal-Fables-1119911Enjoy!

Okay, here's a great Valentine's Day sort for primary students! As a part of our Valentine's Day celebrations (to be held on Tuesday, February 18th), I will give each student a box of Conversation Hearts candies. Before devouring the candies, they will have to sort the pastel candies by color and compare their graph to a classmate's graph. This is a great way for students to practice being critical thinkers by analyzing their findings.
